Imagine that you are eight years old and your dad lives in China because he works there. He only comes home every three years. All of a sudden you can see him and talk to him everyday because of the new software called Skype. Skype is the digital way to hang out with friends. It's the new and popular way to talk to a person, like a telephone, and see them on your computer at the same time. It has helped people all around the world chat it up with old buddies or new ones. Skype is used for children and families to see relatives far away, for businesses to meet with other branches, and for friends who just want to hangout. It's a way to "enter other people's houses" that are thousands of miles away while sitting comfortably in your own home.
"There's nothing really to say about Skype." says Christy G. "I think it's fun." She uses Skype to video confrence her bestfriend because she says, "We are always busy with our sports, and our parents both work so we never get to go over to eachother's houses. Skype let's us do that." Others use Skype to chat with friends or relatives in other countries. My uncle lives in Canada so my family only gets to see him about once every ten years. Skype let's us connect with him, without a cost, and see how he's doing. More relatives of mine have started using Skype, like my grandma and grandpa who live in Denmark. It is so nice to see them without the hassle of flying there. Meetings are a common use for Skype because it is way better than using a telephone. With a phone, you can't see the other person so your not 100% sure who's on the other line. Video conferencing is like you are almost there with the other person. Skype can be downloaded on computers and the iPhone for free, but if you want to call cell phones or landlines, you have to start paying. Since skype is free to call from a computer to a computer, many people have downloaded it.
There are many nice features of Skype and aren't too many bad things about Skype either. If you want to video chat with another person on a computer, you have to first buy a webcam unless your computer already comes with one. If your calling out of the country, say Europe, the quality can be terrible and your call may get dropped quite a few times. Christy G. think that Skype should be able to video conference with more than one person on a computer. Currently, you can talk (like a phone) to many people at once, but if you want to video chat, you can only do so if there is only you and another person on the line.
A couple of bad things haven't discouraged thousands of people around the world to download Skype. It's free, it's fun, it's a way to catch up with some old pals.
