How do you feel about it?
With summer getting closer and the occasional warm days Stoller students are pushing the limits on the Stoller dress code. Right now students (specifically girls) must wear shorts that are at or below their finger tips when they place their arms by theirs sides. Also tank top straps must be at least one inch thick, “I don’t exactly see how that matters” said Annie B. No hats or pajama pants are allowed as well. Most students don’t follow the dress code which also isn’t very strictly enforced. “I feel like it’s kind of not needed because people don’t even follow it anyways” said Makenah R. On some days teachers and other staff members will get on everyone for their shorts or hats, but since they don’t most of the time people feel like they can get away with wearing anything they want. Malia C. said “I think the dress code is kind of ridiculous and they need to realize this is the 21st century and girls are going to wear short shorts.”
However not everybody is so negative about the issue, it could be worse right? “It’s great compared to private schools!” is how Ian K. feels about the dress code. Imagine having to wear a uniform to school everyday and have everyone else wearing the exact same thing. You would have absolutely no way to express yourself. “The only thing I think is stupid is the no hat rule……and the shorts rule as well” said Kiersten K. How does wearing a hat cause a problem? Sometimes you might be having a bad hair day and just need to cover it up with a hat. Teachers should be able to relate to this because I'm sure they’ve had those days. Also by putting rules on how people are allowed to dress you are taking away part of how they express themselves. Some rules are needed but do we have to many?
