COMFORTABLY FASHIONABLE

Stoller teens wearing UGGs with sweats and shorts.

What is this phenomenon of so many children mixed in beween  seasons? We're talking about young women wearing booty shorts and ugg boots in the winter! If you think about it ugg boots are made for the winter, and short shorts are made for the summer so what is everone thinking wearing this outfit?

UGG boots. Black, brown, tan, pink, purple, blue, gold, etc. There are so many different kind of UGGs that are being seen in our school several times. But what do people wear with the warm boots? We have seen the classic jeans worn with it but also sweats and shorts. People wear gray and black sweats with the UGGs, and also jean and plaid shorts. As you know,  they are meant for different seasons although some wear them for different reasons.

We decided to ask principal Florence R. about this outfit and she responded by saying "I think it allows kids to be creative and express themselves, but the plaid shorts are simply too short for school." We also asked her about the sweats and pajamas with uggs and she responded with "Well school is your job, and would you come to your job in sweat pants, pajamas, and short shorts?" Mrs. Richie thought that wearing uggs was okay to do because people but them as shoes and not exactly as slippers.

Devon J. seemed to think otherwise. She wore shorts with UGGs because she liked it and the outfit in her perspective was comfortable. She chooses to wear shorts with UGGs because she "likes shorts and UGGs are comfortable." She says that teenagers find it fashionable but adults don’t. Also, Devon says that she is temporarily okay when wearing and does not feel excessively hot or cold.

"Do you prefer comfort over attraction?"

"1/2 and ½. Some days I feel like comfort and some days I want to be attractive."

When we asked Carlie M. about wearing shorts with uggs she replied with saying that the outfit is comfortable and warm somehow. Although when we asked her if she would prefer comfort over attraction, she chose attraction. So people do seem a little mixed in between whether it is weather appropriate, comfortable, or attractive but people still like the outfit and that's why many wear it. People have many perspectives on what they wear and these two girls are only one example of the many outfits that our school wears. Which makes our school unique and different.

Christina Uhl said that she wears UGGs and sweats because she likes the comfort of the sweats with the comfort of the boots. Christina tells us that they go well together and are fashionable in ways. She can speak for many of the other teens at Stoller who wear this attire.

Is this appropriate attire for school? Would you wear this to your "job"? As long as it does not get in the way of your learning, Ms. Richey says it is okay. Many people wear this to school, even some guys. This is a spreading trend that has become very popular at Stoller. What do you think about this issue? Do you wear the outfit? What do you think when you see people wearing it? We have a diverse school with diverse style. Including pajamas, UGGs, shorts, sweats, and etc. This makes Stoller different and very special.
