Shrek Forever After?

Will Shrek: The Final Chapter be as popular as the first movie?

Everyone knows the story of Shrek, and I haven’t met a person who doesn’t like the movie. In fact, the movie ‘Shrek’ grossed 346.5 million dollars only 25 days after its release, which made it one of the top-grossing animated films in history. The movie is like a fairytale, with familiar characters from children’s stories. Shrek is an ogre, who lives in a swamp, but when the king takes his land, Shrek must find the king a princess to get it back. He goes on this quest with Donkey, who is a “flying, talking donkey,” and on his rip he meets several other mythical creatures. In the end, Shrek and the princess, Fiona, fall in love and get married, instead of to the king.

The movie ‘Shrek’ currently has two sequels: ‘Shrek 2’ and ‘Shrek the Third’. ‘Shrek 2’ quickly won the honor of being the top-grossing animated film of all time. ‘Shrek the Third’ grossed a total of 798.9 million dollars.

'Shrek: The Final Chapter', or better known as 'Shrek Forever After', is the fourth and last film in the series. Its release date is May 21, 2010. I asked a class of 8th graders if they planned on seeing this movie, and a whopping 22 out of 28 students said they were. On www.imdb.com, it says that users gave the movie trailer a 6.8/10.

One user commented on the site saying: “I had a blast with ‘Shrek Forever After’ and can't wait to take my niece and nephew.” An anonymous source told me that, “I think a fourth Shrek movie is going too far… In fact, I only liked the first and second movie, and the third was only okay.” Many people I surveyed agreed that the plot sounds good, but how do you think the movie will do?
