Westview Freshman Football: By Matthew R. Dunaway

This "picture" one might say, is the heart of Westview, it gives players a will to continue playing. But I believe that it is more than a picture, it is a logo.
Since March of 2010 a handful of football players showed up to lift weights at Westview high school. Since then our players have become even better then they started. “Lifting helps… it will make us bigger, faster, stronger and better’. Says Ian Blackburn, one of the players that lift weights. Not only are we just lifting weights but we are also conditioning on occasion. “The running is either outside in the cold or heat running a mile or inside running around the school a few times”, says an anonyms player. This running is very hard but will pay off in the end. Coaches say that running is as important as lifting weights. But what coaches emphasize more then running or lifting is your schoolwork. They emphasize it so much that if you don’t have passing grades you cant play in the games, but you do get to go to practice and condition for all two hours. These punishments will proceed until the player gets his grades up. For right now we are working out five days a week. This is a lot to begin with but the really significant thing is that there is only one other school in this district preparing their future freshman team. Even though they are preparing for it, there is only eight kids lifting there, compared to our 21 kids. Perhaps the biggest reason is because their training is at 6:30 AM, unlike them we have practice at 4:30 PM. We are going to be more ahead of those teams… by far. We have already been the dominant team in the league, almost always making the playoffs. No one can imagine the level of dominance we are going to show this football season.
