No Money, No Graduation

The budgets are being cut and so are some of the fun things we get to do, such as field trips. Last year 20-30 million dollars were cut from the budget. Next year another estimated 16 million will be cut. "You have to cut back where you can" said Mr. Jerde, "Field trips aren’t essential so they're cut, they are good learning experiences and i'm disappointed we cant afford them." Mr. Wells' opinion on this is " I hate it. I think getting a break from school breaks that monotony from day to day. They're fun, its very sad."
In the past the end of the year eighth grade graduation has been spending a day at Oaks Park. However, this year it is changing. Mr. Jerde, one of our vice principals, said, "this is due to safety concerns" and because it "puts out a bad image to the public on how schools are spending tax dollars". We will now be spending the day here at Stoller. Mrs. Richie, Stollers principal, said, "I feel great about it but I know you guys (the students) probably don’t. It provides new opportunities for more kinds of kids."  At Oaks Park you would only get to spend about three and a half hours running around, but here you get three and a half hours of time with all the halls and you still have the whole morning with your hall. The first half of the day will be spent with your hall doing whatever your teachers and classmates decide to do, then the last part of the day will be a big party with all the eighth graders. It will have inflateables, a DJ, and lots of food and prizes. The party was organized by a group of eighth graders that all have different interests, they all threw out ideas about what they thought would be fun to do and then combined the ideas.
