'Twilight' sinks its teeth into Teen Girls

Are teens getting too sucked into Twilight?
Around the World, words have been spread around about the Twilight Saga. Although the first movie came out on Friday, November 21st, 2008, the saga has become more popular through the years. The first movie, Twilight made over 70.5 million dollars, and the second movie, New Moon, made about 72.7 million dollars on the first day it came out. The vampire and werewolve characters have stolen the hearts of many teens around the world. Many businesses have used the faces of Twilight, such as Bella Swan, Edward Cullen, and Jacob Black, to market their products.
Clothing businesses have started to morph itself around the saga. For example: Nordstrom's made their own Twilight Saga line. Drawing in the Twilight fanatics, businesses created tee-shirts, jewelry, bags, and more! Creating T-shirts that read "Team Edward" or "Team Jacob" have attracted many fans, mostly females. At Nordstrom's they have fully stocked up on new Eclipse apparel (newest movie of the saga).

Many people have different opinions on how far businesses have gone to make profits. At Nordstrom's, a girl's v-neck t-shirt that says "Forever J.B." costs $30.00, as for a normal v-neck, it's only $16.00. "They (businesses) do use the saga to market their products too much, but you got to do what you got to do to make business", says Alana. A local anonymous parent quotes, "I think they do over use Twilight, because it costs parents a lot of money, and it's just normal items that you can get cheaper without the Twilight faces on it".
Twilight advertisers have taken selling merchandise another step. From the basic clothes, stickers, and posters, now they introduce Twilight makeup. Makeup is yet another product the Twilight saga has on students. There are blush, lip gloss, eye liner and even perfume. Top stores located with these products are Nordstroms, Hot Topic, and Target. Majority of these stores are stores girls shop at, because girls tend to fall faster for the "hott guy" and buy the products. So as they shop, they "suddenly" come across Twilight merchandise along with it to be everything they want.
“I think some people can like twilight but, if you go get makeup, that’s just silly. Why is anyone so obsessed with this? Its only a book” Says anonymous 8th grader and friend. What about the Twilight fans? Is this silly to them? “ I do really like Twilight but I wouldn’t go over the top by buying everything they come out with. I do have a shirt of team Alice, and sure she’s pretty but I’m not going to waste my money on twilight makeup when I have some already, and mine is much cheaper.” an unknown source speaks. Do you think the twilight makeup is a waste of money? "Actually no, I have the body glow. Its only thirty four dollars, it seems a lot but what beauty product isn’t expensive? And you might as well get it if you like the smell and twilight.” Says a Twilight fanatic. “ The mascara is about twenty two dollars, and the one I have is eight bucks and I bet it works the same. What’s so better about? It's just a Twilight brand.” Says M. Have you ever bought expensive lip gloss? “No, I usually get mine at Victoria's Secret for seven bucks or two for twelve. I’ve seen the price on the Twilight lip gloss, it’s like sixteen bucks for one!”, said M.
Although people believe that the Twilight products are too overpriced, the saga fans apparently don't care. A quote from an anonymous fanatic from Cedar Park says it all, "Cost doesn't matter when there's hott vampires and werewolves on it."
